La NASA lanzó Skylab el 14 de mayo de 1973. Fue la primera incursión de la agencia en la investigación científica en condiciones de microgravedad. Los tres equipos del Skylab demostraron que los seres humanos podrían vivir y trabajar correctamente largos periodos de tiempo en el espacio.
