Bachelor's thesis Psychology (2007)
For my bachelor's thesis in Psychology, I have conducted research on "flaming", which means swearing or insulting on the internet. This kind of behaviour is displayed quite often in situations where people can comment on a weblog, column or movie.
I have shown that social effects play a role. When people can comment on a text with which they disagree, they will flame more often if the existing comments contain flames than when this is not the case. I have tried to explain this effect with a psychological theory about depersonalisation, but this did not work. People seem to copy each other's flaming behaviour, but I don't know (yet) why.

» autor: --10938--
