Cuenta la historia que el párroco de O Cebreiro, Elías Valiña comenzó en 1984 a pintar flechas con pintura amarilla de las carreteras en obras, desde entonces muchos peregrinos y vecinos del Camino de Santiago han seguido con su tradición, remarcando las borradas flechas y pintando nuevas cada vez más lejos de Santiago.
