El presidente de la Unión Ciclista Internacional (UCI), Pat McQuaid, se mostró crítico con lo que considera interferencias políticas en el caso de Alberto Contador, lo que no ayuda a la imagen de España, y afirmó que no tienen claro todavía si van a apelar la absolución."Ahora lo discutiremos con la Agencia Mundial Antidopaje, y tenemos que tener todo el expediente del caso antes de que tomemos una decisión en los próximos 30 días"
McQuaid accepted that Contador is free to ride Tour of the Algarve that begins today in Portugal. However, he acknowledged that the uncertainty was not good for the sport.
"I wasn't surprised when you see it's Spain. Nothing surprises me that comes from Spain. But it's disappointing," he said.
"It's up to sport to police itself. I don’t think it should be interfered with by politicians who don’t know the full facts of the cases and then make statements that are purely political statements.
“I don’t think we can blame the Spanish federation. They've done a good job. I think it [political pressure] is unwarranted and doesn’t help. It doesn’t help the image of Spain either. It showed that they're biased in supporting their own regardless of what the facts of the case might be."
Es que si del "Pan y Circo" quitamos el circo a lo mejor los ciudadanos nos ponemos a leer otras noticias en los periódicos que no sean las deportivas.
Si esto ya pasó con Perico Delgado, lo importante era tener un español ganador (para salir en las fotos con él y decir que España va de maravilla), no lo limpia que hubiera sido aquella victoria
